Where to get it

Any city or town hall in Ontario issues marriage licences — you do not have to marry in the same municipality. Bring two pieces of government ID each.

Cost and validity

Fees vary by municipality (commonly around $145–$160). The licence is valid for 90 days from the date of issue, so plan your Nikah within that window.

Combining it with the Nikah

Imam Gomaa Mahdi, a registered marriage officiant in the Province of Ontario, will perform your Islamic Nikah and sign the licence in the same ceremony, with two witnesses present.

After the ceremony

The officiant submits the signed licence for registration. Weeks later you can order an official marriage certificate from ServiceOntario if you need proof for immigration or name changes.
