Faith (īmān) in Islam rests on six pillars, taught by the Prophet ﷺ in the well-known Ḥadīth of Jibrīl (Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim):

  1. Belief in Allah — His Lordship, His right to be worshipped alone, and His perfect names and attributes.
  2. Belief in His Angels — created from light, who never disobey Allah.
  3. Belief in His Books — the Qur'an, and the earlier revelations in their original form.
  4. Belief in His Messengers — from Ādam to Muḥammad ﷺ, the final Messenger.
  5. Belief in the Last Day — resurrection, judgement, Paradise and the Fire.
  6. Belief in Divine Decree (al-Qadar) — that all good and bad is by Allah's knowledge and will.

"Īmān is that you believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and that you believe in the divine decree, its good and its bad." — Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim
